MACAU, April 3 - The ITTF Men's and Women's World Cup Macao 2026 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, sanctioned by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), organized by the Sports Bureau, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and World Table Tennis Management Group Limited (WTMG), and co-organized by the Macau Table Tennis General Association, concluded the Round of 16 matches today (3 April) at the Galaxy Arena. The quarter-final matches of both the Men's and Women's World Cup will take place tomorrow (4 April), expecting a series of intense battles as the competition heats up.
In the Men's World Cup, world-ranked number one Wang Chuqin of China was locked in a fierce battle against France’s Felix Lebrun. The two were evenly matched in the first four games. However, Wang demonstrated superior reserved strength to eventually prevail 4-2 (11-13, 11-9, 9-11, 11-5, 11-6, 15-13) and successfully secured his place in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Wen Ruibo took on Lin Yun-Ju of Chinese Taipei in a match filled with ups and downs. After falling two games behind, Wen fought back to claim one game but was unable to complete the comeback, eventually falling 1-4 (7-11, 5-11, 11-5, 7-11, 7-11) and missing out on the quarter-finals. In other results, Brazil’s Hugo Calderano survived a scare to defeat Japan’s Shunsuke Togami 4-3 (11-6, 8-11, 4-11, 11-4, 10-12, 11-4, 11-9), relying on his superior composure and clinical execution during the match's critical moments. Additionally, Slovenia’s Darko Jorgic faced Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany, securing a 4-1 victory (11-8, 11-5, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9) to successfully qualify for the quarter-finals.
In the Women's World Cup, China’s Chen Xingtong engaged in a high-intensity battle against Adriana Diaz of Puerto Rico. After securing a two-game lead, Chen faced a fierce fightback as Diaz leveled the score at 2-2. As the match reached a stalemate, Chen demonstrated her resilience to hold off the counter-attack, ultimately winning 4-2 (11-7, 11-6, 12-14, 11-13, 12-10, 13-11) to book her place in the quarter-finals. In other matchups, Shin Yubin of the Korea Republic maintained a steady performance to sweep Germany’s Ying Han in straight games, 4-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-7, 14-12), and progress to the quarter-finals. Egypt’s Hana Goda survived a grueling seven-game thriller against Jia Nan Yuan of France (9-11, 11-9, 11-5, 14-16, 8-11, 11-8, 13-11). Finally, Honoka Hashimoto of Japan eliminated Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi with a 4-1 victory (11-6, 11-4, 11-3, 10-12, 11-4) to secure her spot in the next round.
